So, during the course of creating make it pop we’ve come up with a few, how do we say this, kinda fucked up red client cards. You may be wondering ‘How do you guys come up with these things?’ or ‘Whats the idea behind this card?’ or more probably ‘How has your sessions with the therapist been going?’. Fret not! In this latest series of blogs, we’ll be diving deep into the lore of a single card, unveiling the dark secrets and uncovering the mysteries surrounding each card, and maybe we’ll discover a little something about ourselves in the process.

It’s no secret that the guys behind make it pop are pretty much all dorks; our hobbies and passions are tightly woven within geek culture. From video games to anime, board games to sci fi, each one of us has our own vice and quirk when it comes to geekery, and with that comes the shame of knowing the darker side of this culture.

So today, we’d like to talk about panties. Specifically used panties.

To understand where this concept comes from, we need to look to the far east. Japan is home to an eclectic array of wild (and sometimes too wild) ideas. In a country where giant cartoon robots fighting each other prompts a city to build a real life giant robot or where a melancholic egg yolk gets millions of views on YouTube, you may be surprised that this national love for the weird and wonderful has had some peculiar consequences. Specifically in the area of sex and sexual fetishes.

It’s a well known fact that Japan doesn’t hold back when it comes to weird fetishes. If you’ve been around the internet long enough, you’ll have seen hentai at some point (look forward to more hentai related articles in the future!), a few tentacles here and there, and maybe even a waifu pillow or two. But one of the most seemingly prevalent fetishes from the land of the rising sun is the concept of ‘Panchira’.

Panchira refers to a brief glance at women’s underwear, and stretches to hundreds of sub-fetishes such as ‘Panty wetting’, ‘Panty sniffing’ and ‘wearing panties on your head’ (it’s a thing. In fact, it’s such a thing, there’s a Japanese super hero based on it).

Western and Japanese writers on the subject suggest the phenomenon rose to popularity after the westernisation of Japan following World War II. The much more liberal fashion, ideas and media, previously unavailable to the Japanese, were more readily accessed during the US occupation of the country, leading to a slight relaxing of their earlier taboos (which may or may not have included being fucked by an octopus).

As Japan developed into a technological marvel it is today, the rise of vending machines for literally everything became common, and the Japanese asked the question no culture has dared ask – ‘Why can’t we get our sexual fetishes fulfilled via vending machine?’.
